Louis Rolf writes from New York about the recent announcement of Hugo Chavez passing away at the age of 58. In Venezuela mixed emotions are being expressed from all parts of the world in light of Hugo Chavez‘s death. Chavez has been praised in a statement from Chile President for his work building strong relationships with Russia and being the chosen representative for 14 years. Three to seven days of mourning have been issued in the area.
The Americans never really expressed any liking of Chavez. South American Latin American states however were a different story, they basked in the shared wealth at the discovery of oil and the cash hand outs that came from the money oil brought. The 1 million barrels of oil or black gold as Louis puts it.
Sometimes the biggest hand-outs went to other Latino s, especially the Castro s in Cuba, who have for years relied on Chavez’s support. But in spite of the image of a universal deference and mighty socialist ambitions, Chavez had to tread carefully. The Columbian government President issued his condolences.
Chavez had good advice for his media persona and lots of information and disinformation was issued through Yes Man from the USA. Hugo suggested Nicolas Maduro and his competitor in the last elections Henrique Capriles all expressed their humble condolences.
These mixed messages are wrapped in the legacy of Chavez: always on the run, keep moving, keep everyone from the White House to the downturn Caracas three days of mourning have been announced, guessing and anticipating. Chile government are expressing commiseration condolences and remorse for his passing.
Like him or loathe him Chavez the neighbours or Venezuela will arrive and morn his death. was the only man who could really wind up the White House since Fidel Castro went into his decline. In a world bored silly by its dull and grey politicians for that alone we should probably be grateful to Chavez.
